I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas

I don't think Santa Claus will mind, do you?

[I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas]

Happy wEDnesday!

We're one week away from the big night and we are working overtime to get all of our orders done on time here at the North Pole toyshop and at the NorthPoleTimes.com newsroom!

This is probably the best job an elf like me will ever have. We get room and board for free and everyone I work with is happy every day, all year-round.

Keeping in the tradition of this year's EDitorials, a Christmas song piped into the toyshop got me thinking of all of the different wishes Santa fulfills each year. It's called, "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas!"

Have you ever heard that tune? It makes me smile all of the time because it is one of the most unusual requests we have ever had here at the North Pole. :) The song also talks about caring for the Hippo once it's discovered on Christmas morning.

That's a good reminder: No matter what gift you receive for Christmas, know that it was given with love. Because it's important, remember to take the very best care of your Christmas gift that you can, whether it's a race car, a doll, a coloring book (try to color within the lines - it's not as easy as it looks!), a game or even a hippopotamus. You want it to last a good long time and always be a reminder of Christmas this year.

We're seven days away, but let me be the first to say, "We Wish You a Merry Christmas".

Sincerely,
Eddie Elf

Here are the lyrics to the song, "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" by John Rox:

[by Eddie Elf] I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
Don't want a doll, no dinky Tinker Toy
I want a hippopotamus to play with and enjoy

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
I don't think Santa Claus will mind, do you?
He won't have to use our dirty chimney flue
Just bring him through the front door,
that's the easy thing to do

I can see me now on Christmas morning,
creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise
when I open up my eyes
to see a hippo hero standing there

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles, no rhinoceroses
I only like hippopotamuses
And hippopotamuses like me too

(Short Music Interlude)

Mom says the hippo would eat me up, but then
Teacher says a hippo is a vegetarian

(Short Music Interlude)

There's lots of room for him in our two-car garage
I'd feed him there and wash him there and give him his massage

I can see me now on Christmas morning,
creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise
when I open up my eyes
to see a hippo hero standing there

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles or rhinoceroseses
I only like hippopotamuseses
And hippopotamuses like me too!
