Shooting for Ski Jump Gold

Who will Jump the Farthest?

[Shooting for Ski Jump Gold]

And it’s back to Elf Mountain for the final round of the Ski Jump competition at the Reindeer Games.

Blitzen and Prancer have advanced to today’s final round with spectacular jumps down the special ski jumping area at Elf Mountain.

Today the winner takes home the second gold medal of the games. And each side of the mountain of the ski jump area is packed with fans. This is a very exciting event and despite the very cold weather, the many good folks of the North Pole have packed the course to watch the exciting event.

The ski jump is the second competition of the games. Today’s event will be followed by the figure skating, the luge (really fast sleigh rides), the high jump, the around-the-world race, snowboarding and the last and final competition, just before Christmas, the cross-country skiing event. And today, each deer will jump as far as they can. The winner will be the reindeer who can jump the farthest, but also with the most style. The reindeer will get extra points for style in today’s final round, as judged by the Official Elves. Yes, the winner will be the reindeer who goes the farthest, and looks the best while jumping. So the deer will need to jump far, and jump well.

Ok, it’s up to our famous host, Jim McSnowflake Elf. Take it away Jim! “Thanks Bob. We’re here at Elf Mountain. And we’re almost ready to go. The two finalists, Prancer and Blitzen are strapping on their special skis, and we’re almost ready to go. And the Official Elves are in the officials’ box and ready to hand out the style points. Here we go!” And Prancer is up at the gate, and Prancer is off!

“Prancer is moving down the track with perfect precision, moving faster and faster and faster. Prancer’s at the bottom of the track, and oh my! Prancer with a spectacular leap. Prancer is soaring in the air and down the mountain. It’s a magnificent jump!”

The measuring Elves are out. And that’s 4 miles and 2,205 feet. The best we’ve seen so far! The best jump of the competition. It’s going to be tough to beat.

And now it’s Blitzen. Blitzen’s ready to go! And Blitzen’s off. Down the track, up in the air and down the mountain. Blitzen with a superb jump as well. And a perfect landing! The elves are measuring and the distance. It’s going to be very close! And it’s 4 miles and 2,205 feet! “Oh my! It’s a tie, it’s a tie!” says Jim McSnowflake Elf! “Prancer and Blitzen have jumped precisely the same distance!”

And so it’s up to the judges on the style points. It’s up to the Official Elves. How about those style points, elves? Ok here we go. For Prancer it’s a 10 and 10 and 10 and 9.9. Oh that’s super. Style points are 39.9 for Prancer. That’s a great score.

And for Blitzen? The elves are making their final tally. What will it be? This will decide it!

“For Blitzen, it’s 10-10-10-10!” That’s a perfect score of 40! Blitzen wins! By just a hair, 40 to 39.9. Blitzen wins the second gold medal of the Reindeer Games with a super jump and perfect style points!

There you have it. Check back tomorrow for our third event, the Figure Skating competition! ONLY on The North Pole Times!
