All season long, I've been inspired by Christmas carols and other songs that are piped into the toyshop at the North Pole and the North Pole Times newsroom.
It wouldn't be fitting without me including "We Wish You a Merry Christmas!" Why? Because I wish YOU a Merry Christmas.
That wish is for 365 days of the year, by the way. I’ve included the lyrics below. I’m not sure I’ve ever tasted figgy pudding (we eat so many wonderful foods up here that I can’t keep track), but I do know that my favorite Christmas food is a cut-out sugar cookie with icing and sprinkles.
Have you ever had one? What’s your favorite color sprinkle on Christmas Cookies? I like blue bells, red Santas and red stockings, green Christmas trees, and yellow stars.
I am no stranger to cups of good cheer. We are all pretty cheerful elves at the North Pole. If we’re ever a little blue or down, we are allowed to take a sabbatical for a few days to “get our elf on” so to speak. When we’re ready, we’re back to work and loving it.
While you’re opening your present on Christmas Day, I’ll be packing up my belongings. You see, I’m looking forward to moving into the new elf dormitory after Christmas. Santa promises it will be better than ever. After Herbie graduates from dentist school, he’ll have a small office in the elf dorm to see patients like Bumble. We are all so excited. New digs and a dental clinic all under one roof! haHaaa!
We’ve worked hard this year so Santa could bring you your one Christmas wish. Remember it may not come in the form that you think it will. But you will surely be thought of by someone special! Now, be good for goodness’ sake, because you’ve made it this far.
Until we meet again on a future wEDnesday,
My best to you always,,
EDdie Elf
The author is unknown but “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” came from England in the 1500’s. Here are the lyrics:
We wish you a Merry Christmas;
We wish you a Merry Christmas;
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Good tidings we bring to you and your kin;
Good tidings for Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Oh, bring us a figgy pudding;
Oh, bring us a figgy pudding;
Oh, bring us a figgy pudding and a cup of good cheer
We won't go until we get some;
We won't go until we get some;
We won't go until we get some, so bring some out here
We wish you a Merry Christmas;
We wish you a Merry Christmas;
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
