Editor’s Note:
The following letter was emailed to The North Pole Times by Santa himself, using his trusty Wow-Wee-Whipper-Doo laptop from somewhere in orbit. Santa has been circling Earth for nearly two weeks after the Santa Shuttle mishap. As requested, we are publishing his message in full.
Dear Girls and Boys, Grownups and Elves, Snowmen and Reindeer,
Ho ho ho from outer space!
Waldo and I are still floating high above Earth—ever since he pressed the up button, thinking it opened the door! (He meant well, of course.) But please don’t worry. We’re perfectly safe inside the shuttle Gizmo built for me. We have air, food, water, and even a surprisingly comfortable bunk.
What we don’t have is a way to get home. I know Gizmo is working night and day to finish the rescue rocket, and I’m counting on all of you at the North Pole to keep the Christmas preparations going strong.
I do wish you’d hurry, though! There’s nothing I love more than getting ready for Christmas, and that’s a little tricky when you’re weightless.

Waldo has been doing his best to keep my spirits up. He’s been practicing reindeer jokes—though he still mixes up the punchlines—and he invented a zero-gravity soccer game he calls “spoccer.” It’s quite fun, even if the ball doesn’t always go where you expect it to. I imagine future space children might enjoy it someday.
That’s all for now. I need to check my Naughty or Nice List. (It’s amazing what computers can help with!) I’ll have to double-check it again later, but I should have plenty of time once I’m back at the North Pole… I hope!
Ho ho ho!
Santa
