Some Clanging

Chris was puzzled

[Some Clanging]

Chris Mouse enjoyed a winter day with his family. He first helped his beloved wife dress their twelve children. So, with united forces, they put twelve beanies on twelve furry heads, wrapped twelve knitted scarves, and put on twenty-four mittens. And when they went outside, Chris made twelve ice rinks, twelve tiny sleds, and twelve snowmen in twelve different outfits.

Chris was so exhausted that he sat down to rest on a tree stump. Watching his twelve little ones playing in the snow, Chris heard some clanging. He couldn't help but wonder where the noise was coming from. Breaking through the snowdrifts, Chris followed a loud sound. When he reached the snowy bump, he hid behind a tree and peeked out.

He saw elves running around and building something. One of them coated the roller skate with glue and then placed a cookie on top of it, while the other nailed the boards with a hammer to make a ski slope. Chris followed the ski slope with his eyes all the way to the bottom of the hill.

And there, he saw Toby standing on the frozen lake and cutting the ice with a rough-toothed saw. Toby sawed in a circle as sweat dripped from his forehead. When he got tired, he took a break. Then, he sawed some more until he made a hole in the frozen lake.

Seeing that Chris was puzzled, Waldo approached him.

"You're probably wondering what they're doing," he said, and Chris nodded. "Well, they're building a trap."

"Tee-hee-hee, but not for me," Chris winked.

Will Chris outsmart Toby? Find out tomorrow, ONLY on the North Pole Times.
